In an important development for ocean conservation, the Vendée Globe Foundation has teamed up with Monaco's Prince Albert II Foundation (FPA2) to bolster marine ecosystem protection and promote ocean sustainability research. The partnership was officially sealed in Les Sables-d’Olonne, with Vendée Globe Foundation President Gilles Sallé and FPA2 Vice President Olivier Wenden signing the agreement. A notable aspect of this collaboration is the involvement of a Vendée Globe skipper in the FPA2’s Re.Generation program, which focuses on cultivating young environmental leaders.
During the event, HSH Prince Albert expressed his enthusiasm about the potential of this new alliance. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts between the public and scientific communities to foster innovation and enhance public awareness of the pressing challenges that oceans and natural resources currently face. Prince Albert, advocating strongly for environmental protection, positioned himself as a “concerned but determined defender” of the oceans, highlighting the urgent need for concerted action given the oceans' pivotal role in global sustainability.
Prince Albert underlined the partnership’s ambitious goals, which include expanding scientific understanding, empowering environmentally committed future leaders, and leveraging the Vendée Globe’s values of excellence and resilience to inspire a wide audience. He stressed that environmental efforts should be viewed as an opportunity for positive change rather than a sacrifice, aiming to foster a “positive and inclusive vision” for a sustainable future. This initiative marks a significant step in collaborative efforts to safeguard our planet’s oceans, aligning with Monaco’s longstanding commitment to environmental conservation.
