On November 28 and 29, 2024, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) reviewed Monaco's adherence to policies against racial discrimination. The review, held at the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights headquarters in Geneva, scrutinized the Principality's enforcement of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which it ratified in 1995. The Monegasque delegation, led by H.E. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva, comprised officials from various governmental sectors and the Judicial Services Department.
During the sessions, Monaco’s representatives detailed the nation’s strides in combating discrimination, responding to inquiries from CERD experts. They outlined ongoing efforts to support victims and discussed specific national policies in employment, education, and social welfare, showcasing Monaco’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society. These discussions served to affirm the Principality’s dedicated pursuit of equality and the proactive measures in place to prevent and penalize discriminatory practices across all societal facets.
CERD will subsequently issue its concluding observations, inclusive of recommendations aimed at further enhancing Monaco’s legislative and societal frameworks against discrimination. These recommendations will undergo a follow-up process to ensure continued compliance and improvement. Monaco’s active engagement in this review process highlights its steadfast dedication to upholding human rights and eliminating racial discrimination, aligning with international standards and reinforcing its global standing in human rights advocacy.
