Swiss swimmer Noam Yaron met with HSH Prince Albert of Monaco during the latter's vacation on the Isle of Beauty to discuss Yaron's environmental initiative tied to an upcoming athletic endeavor. Supported by organizations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Ramoge Agreement, Yaron's project seeks to heighten awareness of the ecological challenges facing the Pelagos Sanctuary. The engagement of Prince Albert lends significant influence and visibility to the campaign, bolstering efforts to engage the public, businesses, and policymakers.
In their discussion, Yaron and Prince Albert explored possible environmental measures, specifically advocating for speed restrictions on cargo and tourist vessels in the Pelagos area to safeguard cetaceans from deadly collisions. The endorsement from Prince Albert is seen as a pivotal support for the implementation of these protective regulations, enhancing the campaign's credibility and impact.
Yaron is scheduled to attempt a record-setting swim from Corsica to Monaco, starting at 8:00 AM on Friday, August 23. He plans to swim over 170 kilometers directly from Calvi to Monaco's Meridien Beach Plaza, aiming to arrive by Sunday evening without exiting the water, conditions permitting. This remarkable feat is also supported by Prince Albert's Carabiniers, highlighting a royal backing that underscores the principality's commitment to marine conservation efforts.
