In a challenging match during the 17th round of the EuroLeague regular season, AS Monaco Basketball, known as the Roca Team, suffered a significant defeat against Real Madrid with a score of 94-72. This loss came as a stark contrast to their recent victory against Bayern Munich, which had taken place at their home venue, the Salle Gaston-Médecin, with a robust win of 93-74. The game against Madrid on Thursday night saw the Spanish team taking a strong lead early on, establishing a 27-16 advantage by the end of the first quarter and widening the gap to 18 points at halftime.
Real Madrid showcased superior skill and strategy, outperforming Monaco in key areas such as rebounding, where they led 41-29, and three-point shooting, with Monaco achieving a mere 29.2 percent success rate. The third quarter was particularly decisive, as Madrid executed a 24-12 run, extending their lead to an overwhelming 30 points. Despite a brief rally by Monaco in the fourth quarter, Madrid quickly regained control, maintaining their lead and securing the victory.
This match marked a downturn for Monaco, scoring only 72 points, one of their lowest outputs in the 2024-2025 season. Key players like Mike James, who scored 19 points, and support from Jordan Loyd, Donatas Motiejunas, and Matthew Strazel, were highlighted but could not turn the tide in Monaco’s favor. The Roca Team now holds the second place in the standings and looks ahead to their next game against Anadolu Efes Istanbul on December 26, aiming to recover and ascend once again in the league rankings.
