The Roca Team, AS Monaco Basket's premier squad, has officially parted ways with head coach Sasa Obradovic, following a mutual agreement announced on Monday, November 18. This development arrives shortly after the team's unexpected defeat to Le Mans in the French Betclic Elite championship. Obradovic, who assumed coaching duties in December 2020, departs after a notable tenure that included two French championship victories and a French Cup win, enhancing Monaco's stature in European basketball.
Under Obradovic’s guidance, the Roca Team not only secured domestic titles but also made a significant breakthrough by reaching the Euroleague Final Four for the first time. This achievement underscored Monaco’s rising prominence on the European basketball stage, attributing a substantial part of this success to Obradovic's strategic insights and leadership.
Looking ahead, the team's assistant coach, Manuchar Markoishvili, will take on the role of interim coach, starting with the upcoming Euroleague game against Asvel on Thursday, November 21. The club expressed gratitude towards Obradovic for his monumental contributions and his indelible impact on Monaco’s basketball landscape. As they approach this transitional phase, the focus remains on continuing their competitive momentum in the Euroleague.
