Princess Grace Hospital Advances Cancer Fight with New Radiotherapy Equipment

On the eve of World Cancer Day, Monaco’s Princess Grace Hospital Centre (CHPG) has markedly enhanced its radiotherapy capabilities with the introduction of two cutting-edge devices, a development made possible by a significant donation from Sir Lord Laidlaw. The unveiling of these devices, valued at over €1 million, was attended by Monaco’s Minister for Social Affairs and Health, Christophe Robino, who, alongside Sir Lord Laidlaw, underscored the substantial improvement these tools represent in the treatment of cancer.

The first of these devices introduces a novel method for enhancing precision in patient alignment during radiotherapy, eliminating the need for preliminary X-ray imaging previously required to confirm patient positioning. This advancement not only spares patients from additional radiation exposure but also heightens the safety and accuracy of treatments. The second device presents a new therapeutic alternative for treating certain types of skin cancers that were previously deemed inoperable, offering hope to patients with complex dermatological conditions.

This initiative reflects Monaco’s long-standing commitment to cancer prevention and treatment, both locally and globally. The Principality continues to support significant international cancer initiatives, including the IAEA’s efforts since 2007 and the recent 'Rays of Hope' project aimed at enhancing radiotherapy infrastructure worldwide. As Monaco observes World Cancer Day, these technological advancements at CHPG signify a leap forward in its mission to provide superior healthcare and foster a safer, globally supportive medical future.
