The Princess Charlene Foundation is set to host the esteemed ‘The Crossing: Calvi – Monaco Waterbike Challenge’ on September 6 and 7. This rigorous event will witness 20 athletes navigating the waters from Corsica to Monaco's Larvotto beach. Despite her personal participation in the 2020 edition, Princess Charlene will not compete this year but will be present to support the participants spread across five teams.
Among the competitors is the Serenity team, which represents the Princess and features prominent sports figures including Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas and well-known Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan. They are teamed up with Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell and the Foundation’s Secretary General, Gareth Wittstock, aiming to showcase their prowess in this unique challenge.
The event will also see formidable opponents such as the Lionheart team, captained by Olympic gold medalist cyclist Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, and a team from Ferrari comprising four Italian drivers. Additionally, the local spirit will be championed by the Rock to Rock team, consisting of amateur athletes from Monaco, while the U17 team is led by world boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk. All teams share the ambitious objective of completing the cross-sea journey in record time, adding to the excitement and competitive spirit of the challenge.
