Prince's Carabiniers to Guard Swiss Swimmer in Record Monaco Channel Attempt

In a notable collaboration, the Prince's Carabiniers of Monaco have been tasked with an exceptional mission, supporting Swiss swimmer Noam Yaron in his ambitious attempt to set a new open water swimming record from Calvi to Monaco. Yaron, 27, sought the assistance of the carabiniers to mitigate the risk posed by the prevalent jellyfish in the Mediterranean. The initiative received the endorsement of Prince Albert II, reflecting the principality's ongoing commitment to supporting innovative and challenging endeavors.

Lieutenant-Colonel Martial Pied, head of the Prince’s Carabiniers, disclosed that the connection with Yaron was made through mutual acquaintances, leading to the deployment of carabiniers Jérémy Collin and Thomas Michenet. The duo dedicated approximately 72 hours in their free time to construct an anti-jellyfish net. This invention, crafted out of PVC tubes and protective nets, is designed to be buoyant and will be towed by a catamaran to safeguard Yaron throughout his rigorous journey.

The project also garnered financial support from the Rotary Club of Monaco, under the leadership of President Alain Chastanet, contributing 5,000 euros with a target to raise 7,000 euros. This support underscores the club’s commitment to environmental conservation, a cause deeply resonant with Yaron’s swim. The collaborative effort not only highlights the community’s dedication to environmental issues but also exemplifies the unique ways in which Monaco’s institutions mobilize to support both local and international initiatives.
