Prince Albert Represents Monaco at 34th International Red Cross Conference in Geneva

HSH Prince Albert of Monaco, alongside Monaco's delegation, attended the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent which commenced on October 28 in Geneva. Under the theme "Managing Uncertainty and Strengthening Humanity," this pivotal event gathered delegates from 191 National Societies to address pressing global humanitarian challenges. The presence of Prince Albert, who is also the President of the Monaco Red Cross, underscored the principality's deep commitment to humanitarian issues, as noted by Frédéric Platini, who lauded the Prince for consistently prioritizing human welfare in his leadership.

The conference was particularly significant this year as it coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, treaties pivotal in humanitarian law, which Monaco was among the initial signatories. The gathering served as a critical platform for reaffirming commitments to these international laws amidst increasing global conflicts, climate crises, and health emergencies. Prominent figures, including Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein and Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, joined Prince Albert in these discussions, highlighting the collaborative efforts required to tackle these global issues.

The event also paid tribute to 30 Monaco Red Cross volunteers recently lost while on duty, reminding attendees of the ongoing risks faced by humanitarian workers. Discussions at the conference emphasized the need for strengthened protections under international humanitarian law for these frontline responders. Concluding on October 31, the conference reinforced the essential role of National Societies in humanitarian efforts and their partnership with public authorities, promoting principles of neutrality and protection in humanitarian actions.
