Under the auspices of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the annual New Year’s Ceremony of the Directorate of Public Safety was held, marking a commitment to uphold Monaco’s distinguished security standards. In the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Lionel Beffre, and other high-ranking officials, Eric Arella, the Director of Public Safety since September, reviewed the advancements made in 2024 and reiterated the principality's dedication to maintaining its status as a global security model.
Despite a modest increase in crime rates by 4.1%, with recorded incidents slightly over 1,000, Monaco remains a safe environment, supported by a robust network of nearly 1,300 surveillance cameras across its 2 square kilometer territory. The ceremony highlighted not only these figures but also the proactive measures in place, such as the rise in road safety vigilance and forthcoming legislative actions aimed at curbing reckless driving and substance use.
Looking forward, Director Arella emphasized plans to enhance community engagement, particularly through educational initiatives and neighborhood outreach, along with the adoption of advanced security technologies like facial recognition and sophisticated image analysis software. As Monaco steps into 2025, the principality is poised to continue its legacy of safety and trust, ensuring it remains a secure haven for all residents and visitors.
