Prince Albert II Inaugurates Mareterra, Monaco's New Eco-Friendly Urban Expansion

Monaco's Mareterra district, a landmark two billion euro land reclamation initiative, was inaugurated on December 4 by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. This significant project, which has been over ten years in development, augments Monaco's geographical footprint by three percent and stands as a testament to the Principality's commitment to sustainable and innovative urban expansion. Situated in eastern Monaco, Mareterra not only exemplifies Prince Albert II’s forward-thinking leadership but also delicately balances architectural progress with ecological sensitivity.

During the opening ceremony, Prince Albert II highlighted Mareterra as a testament to Monaco's resilience and forward-thinking approach, achieved through sophisticated engineering and a profound respect for the environment. The eco-district, entirely pedestrian, features a vast one-hectare park, a 750-meter seaside promenade, and several cultural attractions, including the Mediterranean Space and Princess Gabriella Square. These elements are designed to foster a connection with nature while promoting sustainable living through the integration of 1,000 trees, energy-efficient buildings, and renewable energy solutions.

The unveiling of Mareterra marks a significant stride not only in urban development but also in economic and cultural enrichment for Monaco. The district includes 110 modern apartments, 10 villas, four townhouses, and extends the Grimaldi Forum by 10,000 square meters, enhancing Monaco’s global appeal as a hub for business and culture. According to Monaco’s Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, Céline Caron-Dagioni, Mareterra is poised to become a pivotal element of Monaco's landscape, embodying the unique Monégasque lifestyle and serving as a proud symbol of Prince Albert II’s enduring legacy.
