During the World Economic Forum in Davos from January 20-24, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco championed the global fight against plastic pollution. The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in collaboration with UnaTerra, hosted a pivotal breakfast meeting on January 24 titled ‘Bridging Perspectives: Advancing Solutions for Plastic Management’. The event convened 30 leaders from prominent global companies to foster a unified approach towards sustainable plastic management and the broader development of a sustainable blue economy.
Prince Albert II, in his keynote address, emphasized the critical need for immediate action against the environmental and health hazards posed by plastic pollution. Highlighting the slow pace of international negotiations to tackle the issue, he urged the private sector, civil society, and innovators to spearhead efforts in addressing this significant challenge. His call to action stressed the vital role of economic stakeholders in mobilizing resources and rallying support for combating the plastic crisis.
Furthering the commitment to environmental sustainability, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation also participated in several events focusing on the blue economy. Notably, the Monaco House event on January 23, organized by Monaco’s Department of Attractiveness, showcased the Monegasque government's dedication to promoting sustainable initiatives within marine and coastal sectors. These collective efforts at Davos reflect Monaco’s leadership in pioneering solutions for ocean conservation and underline a continued commitment to transforming the threat of plastic pollution into an opportunity for innovation and global progress.
