Prince Albert II Backs Extreme Triathlete and Paraplegic in Arctic Challenge

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco is championing an extraordinary sporting endeavor as extreme triathlete Christophe Santini and his paraplegic teammate Kevin Roustand are gearing up for a demanding 200-kilometer trek across the frigid expanses of the Canadian North. The pair will face harsh conditions with temperatures plummeting to minus 40 degrees, under the dual patronage of Prince Albert II and Pascal Olmeta, ex-football star and founder of the charity A Smile, a Hope for Life.

The athletic duo, noted for their endurance achievements, was received at the Monaco Palace by Prince Albert II, who reiterated his commitment to supporting sports initiatives that include athletes with disabilities. This reception marks their second invitation to the Palace, following their initial visit in 2016 before participating in the Ironman Nice. The forthcoming expedition, commencing on March 1, will challenge Santini and Roustand to traverse icy terrains, the Saint-Laurent River, and a secluded nature reserve, with Santini skiing and pulling Roustand in a custom-modified sled.

This venture not only tests their physical limits but also serves to promote inclusivity and motivate others with disabilities to pursue adventures. Both athletes have been intensively preparing, with Roustand focusing on physiotherapy and strength training, and Santini training by pulling weighted tires to simulate the conditions of the expedition. Their journey also aims to raise awareness and support for A Smile, a Hope for Life, enhancing the lives of children facing serious illnesses.
