On Tuesday, the National Council of Monaco unveiled the findings from its extensive September 2024 public consultation, which drew unprecedented participation from 2,768 residents, representing a 38% turnout. Conducted in collaboration with BVA Xsight, the survey provided critical insights into the well-being, concerns, and preferences of Monegasques, highlighting an impressive 89% of respondents who reported feeling happy—a figure significantly higher than neighboring France and Italy.
The survey identified quality of life as a pressing concern, with 63% of participants citing it as their primary issue. Recommendations to enhance quality of life included improving TER train services, reducing traffic, redesigning green spaces and pedestrian areas, and introducing free bus services. In healthcare, while a majority appreciated Monaco’s medical services, there was a notable demand for reduced waiting times and more streamlined processes, underscored by a strong endorsement for a new health center. Housing satisfaction was reasonably high, though challenges such as rent and utility costs, parking, and neighborhood quality were pinpointed for improvement.
Economic and social spheres also drew significant commentary, with employment satisfaction relatively strong, though disparities in wage perceptions persist. The retail sector received mixed reviews, particularly concerning the variety and quality-price ratio of goods. Trust in the National Council remains robust, with 70% satisfaction with its performance. President Thomas Brezzo has committed to using these insights to enhance policy on key issues like mobility, housing, healthcare, and commerce, affirming the government’s dedication to fostering a responsive and inclusive governance environment.
