Monegasque Man Receives Six-Month Sentence After Drunk Driving Crash in Larvotto Tunnel

A Monegasque national, aged 32, has been handed a six-month prison sentence following a serious traffic incident in the Larvotto tunnel, where he drove under the influence of drugs and alcohol, leading to a collision involving a Porsche Cayenne and an Audi. The accident, which took place on November 2, resulted in the hospitalization of the SUVs' occupants, while the driver, who tested positive for cannabis and cocaine, remained physically unharmed.

During the legal proceedings, it emerged that the individual had been consuming substantial quantities of narcotics and alcohol, specifically 10 liters of wine, 40 cannabis joints, and 5 grams of cocaine daily. His defense attributed these excesses to longstanding personal challenges, including childhood bullying and mental health issues. Despite undergoing treatment for his addictions, he continued to use substances up until the days preceding the crash.

The court, presided over by President Florestan Bellinzona, imposed an 18-month suspended sentence alongside the six months of incarceration, with additional conditions of a three-year driving suspension and compulsory therapeutic supervision. Prosecutor Christine Mutiloa underscored the severity of the accident's impact on the victims, stressing the necessity of a firm judicial response to prevent further endangerment. This case underscores the critical dangers associated with substance abuse and the importance of strict legal measures to combat impaired driving.
