As Monaco ushers in the New Year, the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum becomes the stage for the enthralling ballet, La Mégère apprivoisée, also known as The Taming of the Shrew. This masterpiece, choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot for the Bolshoi Ballet, has garnered international acclaim and now promises to captivate both local and international audiences in Monaco with its engaging and comedic narrative.
Jean-Christophe Maillot, the visionary behind this adaptation, infuses the production with a sense of joy and humor, a refreshing departure from more traditional, solemn ballet performances. He emphasizes the ballet’s aim to forge a direct connection with its viewers while delicately weaving in significant explorations of human relationships. The performance is further enhanced by the dynamic score composed of Dmitri Shostakovich's works, brilliantly orchestrated to complement the narrative and performed live by the esteemed Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Igor Dronov.
The production is also notable for showcasing the remarkable talent of Juliette Clément, a young dancer originally from Menton. Clément, who trained at the Rosella Hightower School in Cannes and the Princess Grace Academy, takes on the lead role, bringing a local flavor to this internationally lauded ensemble. Her performance is a testament to the rich ballet talent cultivated in the region, adding a unique touch to this must-see cultural event running through January 4 in Monaco.
