Monaco is set to observe the European Waste Reduction Week (SERD) from November 16 to 24, marking the sixth year of participation in the pan-European initiative aimed at promoting waste reduction practices. This year, the focus is on combating food waste under the banner "Waste is out of taste," an effort to encourage residents towards more sustainable consumption and eco-responsible habits.
The SERD activities will be centered around a village on the Promenade Honoré II and within Casa d’I Soci on November 20-21, where the public can engage from 9 am to 6 pm. This initiative is a collaboration between Monaco’s Directorate of the Environment, the Directorate of Urban Development, the Monaco City Hall, and the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement. The village will feature around fifteen stands offering interactive workshops, displays on waste reduction, circular economy practices, and environmental sustainability.
In addition to the main activities, this year includes a clothing drive for undergarments and a collection for eyeglasses at the Fontvieille Shopping Center. A novel initiative invites hair salons across the Principality to collect hair cuttings during the SERD week to support Coiffeurs Justes, a French organization that repurposes hair for ecological uses. For further details on the SERD program and to participate, residents can access information through the ‘Your Monaco’ mobile app or the Prince’s Government website.
