Monaco to Inaugurate Mareterra Project with Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene

Monaco is set to celebrate the grand opening of the Mareterra district on December 4, with Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene presiding over the inauguration. This six-hectare land reclamation project, which extends Monaco into the Mediterranean Sea, has been completed with a budget of two billion euros and ahead of its projected schedule, marking a significant expansion for the principality. Initiated in 2013, Mareterra adds three percent to Monaco's land area, now totaling 208 hectares, through a project overseen by the Société Anonyme Monégasque (SAM) L’Anse du Portier and the government’s Urbamer division.

Mareterra blends high-end residential living with public leisure spaces, featuring 110 luxury apartments, 10 exclusive villas, and four townhouses, alongside a 16-berth marina and a 500-meter coastal promenade. The district also includes a lush hill planted with 1,000 mature trees, 12 shops and restaurants, an expanded Grimaldi Forum, and 160 parking spaces, all within a fully pedestrianized setting designed for relaxation and community activities. The details regarding property pricing, however, remain under wraps.

The development of Mareterra was guided by a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, incorporating advanced measures to safeguard the adjacent Larvotto marine reserve and the Spélugues reef. The district is engineered to endure potential seismic events and rising sea levels, with a billion-euro maritime infrastructure project by Bouygues Travaux Publics featuring 18 protective caissons that maintain natural ocean currents. Following its official unveiling, Mareterra will open its doors to the public on December 5, offering a new, green sanctuary in one of the world’s most densely populated nations.
