Monaco to Host 27th Edition of Historic Rally Following Monte Carlo Rally Success

Just days after the exhilarating Monte Carlo Rally, motorsport enthusiasts in the Principality can anticipate further excitement with the commencement of the 27th Historic Rally this Saturday. Unlike its high-speed counterpart, this event, starting in Valencia, focuses on precision driving over speed, with 222 competitors navigating classic cars through 17 special stages. The challenge emphasizes maintaining a predetermined average speed, requiring meticulous navigation and expert handling.

Recent amendments in the rally rules have heightened the challenge by prohibiting the use of GPS recalibration, thus highlighting the critical role of co-drivers in managing speeds and timing manually. This shift aims to revive the strategic teamwork that was once a hallmark of rallying. The event sprawls over 1,600 kilometers and spans five days, testing the durability of vintage vehicles manufactured between 1911 and 1982, and pushing teams to their limits amid potential mechanical failures and adverse weather conditions.

The rally route, traversing over 500 towns and culminating in Monaco, integrates the iconic climb over Col de Turini in its final stages, promising a thrilling climax to the competition. With participants from 26 nations and representing 34 car brands, the Historic Rally not only celebrates the rich heritage of automotive engineering but also showcases the enduring spirit of competitive rallying. The event is set to conclude with all teams regathering in Monaco on Tuesday evening, marking another significant chapter in the Principality’s storied motorsport tradition.
