Monaco Students Participate in Jury for Cinema for Change Festival

Nearly 500 young students from Monaco congregated at the Théâtre des Variétés to adjudicate the Children’s Prize at the Cinema for Change Festival, an event endorsed by the Monaco Government. On the same day, university attendees from Sciences Po Paris’ Menton campus participated actively in discussions, later voting for the Student Prize. The festival, now in its 14th year, focuses on short films that spotlight the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, aiming to elevate consciousness about global development and encourage international solidarity.

During the festival, Marc Obéron, the festival's founder, presented six short films to students from six local schools. These Monaco students, along with peers from France and seven nations within Monaco’s international cooperation network—including Burkina Faso and Mali—formed a substantial jury of over 30,000 young individuals. Their collective votes are set to determine the winner of the Children’s Prize, reflecting a broad and diverse perspective on significant global issues.

The event also featured an evening session where students from the Mediterranean-Middle East campus of Sciences Po Paris in Menton reviewed and debated four films contending for the Student Prize. This engagement is part of a broader collaboration with Monaco’s International Cooperation Directorate, designed to deepen student understanding of global issues such as human rights and poverty reduction. The winners of the Cinema for Change Festival will be announced during a ceremony at the GoodPlanet Foundation in Paris on April 12.
