Mme Séverine Dusaintpere, Deputy Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, recently represented Monaco at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Asunción, Paraguay. The session, which concluded on December 7th, saw the addition of 63 new cultural elements to UNESCO’s list, now featuring a total of 788 practices that are recognized as vital expressions of living heritage.
The event was distinguished by the presence of notable figures including Mr. Santiago Peña Palacios, President of Paraguay, and Ms. Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director-General. This year's additions to the UNESCO list included diverse cultural expressions such as the know-how of Parisian roofers and ornamentalists from France, and the culture of fairs shared by Belgium and France, highlighting the universal values of cultural diversity and social cohesion.
Monaco, adhering to the 2003 Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage, continues its commitment to the preservation of living traditions that are passed through generations. The Principality also actively contributes to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund, supporting efforts to maintain global cultural diversity. This engagement underscores Monaco's dedication to fostering an understanding and appreciation of cultural heritage worldwide.
