Monaco's New Minister of State Sets Strategic Vision in Debut Press Conference

Monaco's newly appointed Minister of State, Didier Guillaume, conducted his inaugural press conference on September 17, where he outlined his strategic vision for the Principality. Addressing journalists, Guillaume emphasized the government's commitment to transparency and service to the public, underlining Monaco's unique attributes such as institutional stability, absence of public debt, and robust security. These, he stated, were central to maintaining and enhancing Monaco's attractiveness, a recurrent theme in his address.

During the conference, Guillaume highlighted the importance of collaboration within the government and with external entities like Monaco’s National Council. He voiced regret over the Council's recent rejection of the proposed amending budget but expressed optimism about future cooperation. Key immediate challenges discussed included resolving disruptions to the railway line, crucial for the daily commute of many workers, with a temporary pause in service due to a significant football match.

Looking forward, Guillaume is setting ambitious targets for Monaco, including removing the Principality from international oversight lists and revamping local infrastructure such as the Fontvieille shopping centre. He reaffirmed Monaco's sovereignty and differentiated status from France, responding to ongoing public discussions. Guillaume’s comprehensive plan stretches to the summer of 2025, aiming to bolster economic resources and ensure the success of significant projects like the Mare Terra, vital for Monaco's economic sustainability.
