On November 19, 2024, Monaco's National Day will be marked by a historic event as the Republican Guard Cavalry Regiment, a distinguished symbol of French military tradition, parades in the Principality for the first time in 128 years. The ceremonial presence of twelve riders and their horses at the Place du Palais will underscore the deep-rooted diplomatic and cultural connections between Monaco and France. This elite unit, unique in France, performs over 4,600 patrols each year, primarily in Paris, where they play a critical role in state ceremonies and maintaining traditions.
The return of the cavalry to Monaco brings back memories of their last visit on March 5, 1896, when they escorted French President Félix Faure to the Prince’s Palace. This year's event, however, will be particularly notable as it will be led by Colonel Marie-Audrey Leheup, the first woman to command the cavalry regiment, alongside Squadron Leader Marc Lepretre. Their leadership not only highlights the modern evolution of the regiment but also reinforces the ceremonial bond shared between the two states.
The participation of the Republican Guard Cavalry Regiment in the National Day festivities will not only add a layer of ceremonial splendor but will also celebrate the longstanding Franco-Monégasque alliance through the grandeur of tradition and diplomacy. As the regiment parades through the Place du Palais, they will bring to life the spirit of ceremonial excellence that is a hallmark of both nations' rich historical tapestry.
