Monaco's Hôtel des Ventes to Auction Modern, Contemporary Masterpieces This Thursday

Monaco's art connoisseurs and collectors are set to gather at the prestigious Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo this Thursday for a highly anticipated auction featuring 98 exceptional modern and contemporary artworks. Starting at 3 pm on Quai Antoine Ier, the auction will showcase an eclectic mix of oil paintings, sculptures, and glass mosaic lamps. The available catalogue, both in print and digital formats, underscores the predominance of postmodernist pieces, positioning this event as a cultural highlight for the principality's vibrant art scene.

Highlighting the auction are key pieces such as Moïse Kisling’s ‘Le Port d’Audierne’, a 1912 painting that exemplifies his early Cubist style, and ‘Le Havre, Bassin de la Manche du Quai de Southampton’ by Jean Dufy, which captures the dynamic essence of the North Sea. Additionally, works by Léopold Survage from a Cannes collection will offer attendees a look into geometric abstraction and symbolic narrative, enriching the diverse artistic offerings.

Notable sculptures include Rembrandt Bugatti’s ‘Deux Jeunes Gazelles’, a rare 1905 plaster expected to draw significant interest. Moreover, the auction features Jean-Michel Folon’s sculpture ‘Un Homme’, carved from yellow Pakistani stone, which resonates particularly with local audiences due to Folon’s historical ties to Monaco. The event is poised to reach a crescendo with the sale of Arnaldo Pomodoro’s ‘Sphere’, a 1975 golden-bronze patinated piece, anticipated to be one of the top lots. This auction not only promises a celebration of artistic mastery but also an engaging experience for Monaco's art enthusiasts and international collectors alike.
