Isabelle Berro-Amadei, Monaco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, recently led a delegation to Burundi, reinforcing the principality's commitment to its international cooperation efforts. The visit, spanning from October 15 to 20, followed the recent signing of a Cooperation Framework Agreement between Monaco and Burundi. This agreement, sealed by Berro-Amadei during the Francophonie Summit in Villers-Cotterêts, France, aims to strengthen the historic ties between the two nations and support Burundi’s national development initiatives.
During the visit, the delegation explored various projects funded by Monaco in areas such as health, education, child protection, and employment. These initiatives demonstrate the principality's dedication to fostering sustainable development and improving living conditions in Burundi. A significant focus was on the renewal of a partnership with the World Food Programme, aimed at enhancing Burundi’s National School Feeding Programme. This project will now provide nutritious meals to 82,000 children in 100 schools across three provinces, emphasizing the use of local produce.
The visit underscores Monaco’s ongoing commitment to its international partnerships, particularly in supporting vulnerable communities. The delegation, which included meetings with local NGOs and UN agencies, highlighted the active role of Monegasque civil society in Burundi. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the "Amie des Enfants" school in Matana, a Monaco-supported inclusive education initiative, the trip marked a reaffirmation of Monaco’s long-standing support to Burundi since 2008, across various key development areas.
