Monaco's Boris Herrmann Concludes Vendée Globe in 12th After Intense Global Challenge

After an arduous 80-day journey, Monaco's own Boris Herrmann, representing the Yacht Club de Monaco and supported by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Pierre Casiraghi, crossed the finish line of the 2024/25 Vendée Globe late Wednesday night. Despite a series of daunting challenges and technical setbacks, Herrmann secured 12th place in the grueling solo round-the-world race, a remarkable feat given the circumstances.

Initially considered a contender for a top position following his fifth-place finish in the previous edition, Herrmann faced relentless difficulties this year aboard his cutting-edge Malizia-Seaexplorer. Technical issues with foil adjustments and a critical J2 sail hook failure significantly hampered his progress. His plight worsened after a collision with an unidentified floating object, believed to be a marine animal, severely damaged his port foil, impeding his speed and maneuverability.

Nevertheless, Herrmann's perseverance shone through as he navigated the final obstacles, including a severe storm in the Bay of Biscay and a torn mainsail just hours before finishing at Les Sables-d’Olonne. Completing the race with an average speed of 15.13 knots, Herrmann's resilience and determination were lauded, reflecting the spirit of both the sailor and the principality he represents.
