Monaco Red Cross Initiates Critical Blood Collection Drive at Headquarters

The Monaco Red Cross recently concluded a significant two-day blood donation campaign at its Boulevard de la Costa headquarters, aiming to attract 70 donors to bolster the Principality’s blood reserves, which are critically low. The event saw collaboration with staff from the Princess Grace Hospital Centre, including two doctors and three nurses, to oversee the donation process and highlight the essential nature of these contributions. Monaco annually requires around 5,000 donations but fell short with only 2,348 bags collected last year.

The process for donors is efficient and thorough, ensuring that all participants are eligible and healthy enough to donate. It starts with a medical questionnaire followed by a brief consultation. Eligible donors range in age from 18 to 65, or up to 70 for those who have previously donated, and must weigh over 50 kilograms. The actual donation takes just about 10 minutes, after which donors are offered refreshments to aid in their recovery.

For those who missed this event, the Monaco Red Cross encourages residents to consider donating blood regularly at the Princess Grace Hospital from Monday to Thursday, or by utilizing the convenient bloodmobile service that circulates within Monaco. Potential donors can register through the Monaco Red Cross website or stay informed via Monaco Health News. Each donation contributes significantly to the lifesaving blood supplies needed in the Principality.
