Monaco Pétanque Challenge Raises Funds for Paediatric Liver Cancer Research

The second edition of the Pétanque Challenge, orchestrated by Monaco Liver Disorder (MLD), successfully concluded on January 19, raising €10,000 for pioneering paediatric liver cancer research. The event, marked by competitive spirit and solidarity, crowned the team from the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation as champions. The proceeds were handed over to Dr. Christophe Grosset of the MIRCADE research team at the University of Bordeaux to facilitate the development of novel treatments for children experiencing chemotherapy-resistant forms of the disease.

Carla Fadoul Shechter, the Executive President and Founder of MLD, highlighted the dual purpose of the gathering: to collect crucial funds for ongoing medical research and to provide a day of relief for families grappling with rare diseases. Shechter emphasized the importance of instilling hope and fostering resilience among parents facing daunting challenges due to their children’s illnesses. Through events like these, MLD aims to build a supportive community that encourages positivity and perseverance on the path to recovery.

The event also featured a gourmet lunch prepared by seven distinguished chefs, adding a celebratory flavor to the day’s proceedings. Beyond the immediate fundraising and community-building objectives, MLD is committed to raising awareness about the critical need for organ donations, which for many young patients, represent the only hope for survival. The day concluded with an award ceremony, where trophies designed by Monegasque artist Anthony Alberti, also known as Mr One Teas, were presented to the winners, symbolizing the unity and creativity that the Pétanque Challenge strives to embody.
