On December 3, the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco was the venue for the distinguished Peace and Sport Awards 2024, which celebrated the role of sport in promoting peace, inclusion, and equity across the globe. The ceremony was presided over by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, who awarded the Personality of the Year to Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee. Estanguet was honored for his dedication to fostering an inclusive and sustainable Olympic legacy, aligning with the values promoted by the Monaco-based Peace and Sport organization.
The awards event was held in conjunction with the 14th Peace and Sport International Forum, under the theme “Speak your Peace.” The forum was highlighted by the Peace Walk, which saw global leaders and community figures come together to demonstrate the unifying power of sport. This annual forum and its associated activities underscore the commitment of Peace and Sport to use sport as a dynamic tool for social cohesion and intercultural dialogue.
Emphasizing a grassroots approach, Peace and Sport collaborates with various communities and international bodies to integrate sport into broader peacebuilding and social inclusion strategies. The organization's efforts focus on education, gender equality, and reconciliation, leveraging partnerships to enhance the impact of civil society initiatives. The symbolic #WhiteCard campaign, representing peace through sport, further encapsulates the vision of creating a safer, more inclusive world where sport transcends mere competition, becoming a pivotal force for unity and positive change.
