Monaco has been named the World Capital of Sport for 2025, a distinction awarded by the Association of European Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES) at a ceremony held at the European Parliament in Brussels. The Principality was represented by His Excellency Frédéric Labarrère, Monaco’s Ambassador to Belgium, who accepted the symbolic ACES flag, signifying Monaco’s role in leading global sports promotion.
The award acknowledges Monaco’s dedication to enhancing sports development and accessibility, an initiative strongly supported by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. Known for his commitment to utilizing sports as a means for fostering peace, education, and overall well-being, Prince Albert has spearheaded numerous projects that showcase Monaco as a paragon of sports excellence. The government’s efforts in promoting physical activity through education, public facilities, and support for top-tier athletes further cement the Principality's status as a center for major international sports events.
Taking over from Sofia, Bulgaria in 2024, Monaco’s new title as World Capital of Sport 2025 highlights its ongoing dedication to promoting the values of health, unity, and the competitive spirit in the sporting arena.
