Monaco's middle school students will soon enjoy a cutting-edge educational experience at the new facility on Îlot Pasteur, which marks a significant upgrade from the overextended Charles III College. Located at 7 Promenade Honoré II, the new school is set to welcome up to 1,500 students and will be inaugurated in mid-September, with an anticipated appearance by Prince Albert II. This modern institution promises to reshape the educational landscape in Monaco with its central location and advanced facilities.
The building, a creation of Monegasque architect François Lallemand and Square Architecte, stands out with its unique use of X-shaped metal structures, integrating both innovative design and structural integrity across its 23,000-square-meter expanse. The challenges of constructing in Monaco’s cramped conditions were met with a novel architectural approach, blending concrete and steel to optimize space and functionality.
The school is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities designed to enhance learning and physical activities. These include small classrooms, a multi-sport gymnasium, a 300-seat amphitheater, and a 25-meter swimming pool. Additionally, the school features two recreational areas tailored to different age groups—one at ground level and another on the rooftop offering stunning views of Fontvieille harbor and the Prince’s Palace. With 90% of its students able to walk to school and additional support through a new 816-space public parking facility, the school is not only a beacon of advanced education but also an accessible one for the community.
