Monaco's commitment to environmental conservation and its historic relationship with UNESCO were highlighted during a photography exhibition at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, marking the 75th anniversary of Monaco's membership in the organization. The exhibition, which opened on October 3rd, featured the acclaimed winners of the 4th Environmental Photography Prize of the Prince Albert II Foundation. The event underscored Monaco's longstanding dedication to oceanographic science, a pursuit passionately supported since the era of Prince Albert I.
The display, which was set in the Segur Hall of the UNESCO House until October 14th, showcased compelling images that aim to deepen public understanding of the human impact on natural ecosystems. With over 11,000 entries from 2,600 photographers spanning 134 countries, the competition highlighted global concerns through categories such as “Marine Worlds,” “Heart of the Forest,” and “Polar Wonders.” The exhibition not only celebrated artistic expression but also served as a call to action, emphasizing the urgent need to preserve our planet.
In her opening remarks, H.E. Anne-Marie Boisbouvier, Monaco’s Ambassador to UNESCO, reiterated the Principality’s enduring commitment to scientific research and environmental protection. The exhibition attracted a diverse group of attendees, including UNESCO representatives, diplomats, and students from the Foundation of Monaco in Paris, all gathered to honor a partnership that champions sustainable development and education. This year-long celebration is set to conclude in December 2024 with the release of a commemorative book detailing the collaborative efforts of Monaco and UNESCO towards fostering global peace and cultural exchange.
