Monaco Mairie Shares Annual Civil Registry Statistics, Revealing Key Demographic Trends

The Mairie de Monaco has recently disclosed its annual civil registry data for 2024, continuing its long-established practice of documenting significant life events such as births, marriages, and deaths within the Principality. This historical tradition, which dates back to the 16th century, provides valuable insights into the demographic and cultural shifts in Monaco.

Over the past year, the Principality recorded 721 births, a slight decrease from 804 in the previous year. The gender distribution included 399 boys and 322 girls, with the vast majority of births (720) taking place at the Princess Grace Hospital and one reported home birth. Interestingly, most of these births were to families from neighboring regions like Menton, Beausoleil, and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Popular names for newborns in 2024 were Rose, Victoria, and Emma for girls, and Jules, Léo, and Lorenzo for boys.

The civil registry also noted a decline in the number of deaths, with 509 recorded in 2024 compared to 538 the previous year, and an almost equal distribution between male and female deceased. The majority of these deaths occurred in hospitals. In terms of matrimonial records, there were 176 marriages, showing a decrease from 194 in 2023, with a notable presence of mixed or foreign couples and a slight increase in divorces to 66 cases from 64 in the previous year. These records not only maintain Monaco's rich archival heritage but also reflect its ongoing societal changes.
