Monaco Institutes Partner with French Universities to Launch First Monegasque Law Diploma

A new educational initiative was inaugurated at the Palais de Justice in Monaco, setting a significant milestone in the Principality's judicial education. The Institut Monégasque de Formation aux Professions Judiciaires (IMFPJ) entered into a formal agreement with the law faculties of the Université Côte d’Azur and Aix-Marseille Université on Thursday, August 29, to create the first Inter-University Diploma (DIU) in Monegasque Law. This collaboration underscores a major advancement in the legal education landscape within Monaco.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Sylvie Petit-Leclair, Secretary of State for Justice, and Professor Jeanick Brisswalter, President of the Université Côte d’Azur. They were joined by Professor Yves Strickler, Scientific Director of the IMFPJ and initiator of the project, and Professor Jean-Baptiste Perrier, representing Aix-Marseille Université. This partnership signifies a robust step towards enriching the legal proficiency of future lawyers in the Principality.

Starting this academic year, the program will enable law students from the Université Côte d’Azur and Aix-Marseille Université to commence their studies in Monegasque law, integrating it with their existing curriculum over a span of three years. By September 2025, the program is set to expand with Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas joining the initiative. This educational endeavor not only enhances the legal understanding of students in Nice, Aix-en-Provence, and soon Paris but also elevates the global stature of Monaco's legal system.
