On Saturday, November 2, 2024, Monaco played host to a special gathering organized by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, celebrating 20 years of the Stelios Scholarship program at the London School of Economics (LSE). The event reunited over 60 Stelios Scholars, showcasing the significant contributions made by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who has invested £3.7 million in the initiative since its inception. The presence of LSE’s President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Larry Kramer, underscored the importance of the occasion, providing an opportunity for both alumni and current recipients to reflect on the enduring impact of their scholarships.
During the reunion, Sir Stelios reaffirmed his commitment to philanthropy, particularly in the sphere of higher education. He emphasized the critical role his foundation plays in empowering students through financial support, a commitment that was mirrored by the evening's fundraising efforts. These efforts resulted in a total of £255,000, pledged by alumni and matched by the foundation, which will fund ten new scholarships for UK students starting in Autumn 2025. This initiative not only highlights the spirit of giving back but also strengthens the community of scholars connected through their LSE experience.
The event was not just a celebration of past achievements but also a platform for scholars to share their professional successes, further illustrating the transformative effect of the Stelios scholarships. Sir Stelios and the LSE alumni continue to foster a legacy of educational opportunities, ensuring that the benefits of the program extend to future generations. This ongoing support exemplifies a profound commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility, resonating deeply within the Monaco community.
