Monaco Hosts Dante Alighieri Round Table on Italian Polar Missions

The Dante Alighieri Committee of Monaco is set to illuminate the critical issues facing the polar regions during a round table discussion at the Oceanographic Museum on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 5:00 PM. Under the esteemed patronage of H.R.H. Princess of Hanover, and with collaborative support from the Italian Embassy and Monaco’s Directorate of Cultural Affairs, the event titled "Les missions polaires Italiennes et pas seulement: Comment, Quand et Pourquoi" promises a comprehensive exploration of Italian contributions to polar research, along with broader international efforts.

This prestigious gathering will draw on the expertise of a panel that includes Carlo Barbante, Director of the Institute of Polar Sciences and Professor at Ca’ Foscari University; Nathalie Metzler, Deputy Director of the French Polar Institute; and Florence Descroix-Commanducci, Director of the IAEA. Together with other eminent researchers and policymakers, they will delve into the vulnerabilities of the Arctic and Antarctic regions amidst climate change challenges. The discourse will be enriched with video contributions from scholars engaged in remote polar missions.

Monaco continues to assert its influence in global environmental discourse, building on a legacy initiated by Prince Albert I and vigorously sustained by H.S.H. Prince Albert II through his foundation’s commitment to planetary health. Admission to the event is free, although prior reservation is necessary and can be made until November 18 by contacting info.dantemc@gmail.com or calling +377 97 70 89 47. This round table offers a vital platform for advancing the principality’s role in polar science and international environmental cooperation.
