Monaco Honors Patron Saint Sainte Dévote with Traditional Two-Day Celebration

The Principality of Monaco recently celebrated the feast of its patron saint, Sainte Dévote, with an array of traditional festivities, spread over January 26 and 27. A collaborative effort between the Diocese of Monaco, the Princely Government, the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions, and the Monaco Town Hall ensured the events honored the saint with due reverence and grandeur. The celebrations commenced with the Messe des Traditions in Monégasque at the Sainte Dévote Church, followed by a solemn evening procession and the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Highlighting the second evening, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, accompanied by Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, participated in the traditional burning of a boat at Quai Albert I. This symbolic act was witnessed by Mayor Georges Marsan, various council members, and dignitaries from Monaco's highest institutions, alongside international representatives from twin towns such as Lucciana, Ostend, and Dolceacqua. The presence of Corsican singers and the Municipal Band added a festive musical ambiance to the ceremony.

The celebrations continued into January 27 with a Pontifical Mass held at Monaco Cathedral, an ensuing procession, and an official reception at the Monaco Town Hall. These events not only reinforced communal bonds but also showcased Monaco's rich cultural heritage and ongoing commitment to tradition, drawing large crowds and ensuring broad participation through live broadcasts on giant screens.
