In response to a confirmed case of indigenous dengue fever involving a Menton resident employed in Monaco, local authorities have stepped up mosquito control measures. The Health Action Directorate, in conjunction with the Interdepartmental Agreement for Mosquito Control of the Mediterranean Coast (EID), conducted targeted insecticide spraying early Friday morning in Monaco-Ville. The operation, which took place between 02:00 and 04:00, aims to curb the spread of the Aedes albopictus mosquito, commonly known as the "tiger mosquito."
The intervention follows a previous campaign earlier this week, designed to prevent a dengue outbreak in locations frequented by the affected individual. This initiative is part of a broader effort to manage mosquito populations and mitigate health risks associated with the insects. The focus of the spraying was confined to a 150-meter radius around the key areas, to ensure the treatment was both effective and localized.
Residents have been advised to keep windows closed and avoid outdoor activities during the early morning hours of the spraying to minimize exposure. Those experiencing symptoms such as coughing, dizziness, or nausea should seek medical advice promptly.
