Monaco Enhances Security Measures for Festive Season Under New Leadership

As Monaco gears up for the end-of-year festivities, the government has introduced a comprehensive security strategy to safeguard both residents and tourists. Lionel Beffre, the recently appointed Government Advisor and Minister of the Interior since August 5, 2024, has stressed the importance of maintaining order and safety during the upcoming busy holiday season. "The goal is to ensure the end-of-year celebrations go as smoothly as possible," said Beffre, outlining plans for an increased presence of the Public Safety Corps, which boasts 620 agents, including urban police officers actively patrolling the area.

The enhanced security measures will include heightened patrols along public roads and rigorous inspections at all entry points to the Principality. There will also be increased surveillance at major transport nodes such as the train station, alongside focused monitoring of roads and key commercial zones. Beffre assured that the security force would dynamically adjust to the flux of the festive season's busier days to optimize resources without overextension.

Further emphasizing vigilance, Eric Arella, head of Public Safety since September 2024, echoed Beffre’s commitment to vigilance during this period. "We must remain vigilant, as we are every year," Arella noted, pointing out the deployment of a significant portion of urban police to manage the holiday season's security demands. The plan also prioritizes the protection of sensitive locations, including religious sites, the Christmas village, nightlife spots, and venues hosting sporting events, aiming to prevent any potential disruptions. This security initiative aligns with a 4.2% increase in emergency responses by Monaco’s firefighters, underscoring the government's resolve to ensure a secure and joyful holiday environment for everyone in the Principality.
