Monaco Enhances Security and Road Safety Measures for New Year's Eve Celebrations

Monaco is enhancing its security protocols for the upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations, with an intensified focus on road safety and effective crowd management. This decision follows a series of grave accidents in the Principality, prompting heightened governmental vigilance. Minister of the Interior Lionel Beffre has articulated the administration's dedication to fostering a secure yet celebratory atmosphere, particularly by addressing traffic safety during this critical time.

In response to concerns, the number of police officers on duty during the night of December 31 will be increased threefold, focusing on Monaco's most frequented spots such as the Port of Monaco, the casino district, and principal access routes. Minister Beffre has called attention to the dangers of drunk driving, strongly advising celebrants to opt for taxis or alternative transportation methods. He stressed the government's stringent policy against drunk driving, reflecting an overarching zero-tolerance stance.

Furthermore, the government has initiated 60 road checks since mid-December, which have led to 200 fines, and is preparing to introduce tougher legislative measures to combat alcohol-related offenses more effectively. These measures include drafting laws to penalize life-endangering conduct by intoxicated drivers, escalating fines for speeding, and deploying advanced intoxication detection methods. Additional security arrangements at key celebration venues will include crowd control tactics and limitations on alcohol and glass bottles to ensure public safety. Minister Beffre's firm message underscores Monaco's commitment to ensuring both the safety and enjoyment of its residents and visitors as they ring in 2025.
