From November 18 to 20, 2024, Monaco demonstrated its steadfast commitment to global environmental efforts by participating in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan. Céline Caron-Dagioni, the Government Counselor-Minister for Equipment, Environment, and Urban Planning, represented Monaco. She emphasized the Principality’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change and highlighted the discussions centered around a new financial framework designed to support developing countries through 2030 in their climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
During the conference, Caron-Dagioni delivered a compelling address on Monaco’s strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and underscored the imperative for nations to intensify their climate commitments in adherence to the Paris Agreement. Her participation in a high-level ministerial roundtable on urban planning and climate change further showcased Monaco's advocacy for sustainable urban development as an essential element in addressing global climate challenges.
The Monegasque delegation, including prominent environmental and diplomatic experts such as Jérémie Carles, Céline Gindre, and Carl Dudek, played a pivotal role in advancing discussions on key declarations and initiatives. Their contributions underlined the critical importance of science in climate policy, the urgent need to limit global warming to 1.5°C, and the pivotal role of decarbonizing and adapting urban areas. Monaco's proactive and forward-thinking presence at COP 29 clearly reaffirms its commitment to leading on climate issues and promoting innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
