Monaco Delegation Partakes in 52nd World Food Security Committee Session in Rome

From October 21 to 25, 2024, Monaco's delegation participated in the landmark 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) in Rome. The event was doubly significant as it marked the 50th anniversary of the CFS and the 20th anniversary of the adoption of pivotal guidelines on the right to adequate food, vital in shaping national food security strategies. Monaco's representatives, led by H.E. Anne Eastwood, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the FAO, took this opportunity to reaffirm the principality's dedication to combating global inequalities and enhancing food security.

During the sessions, the delegation engaged in critical discussions on the latest findings of the 2024 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report. The report highlighted that between 713 and 757 million people globally suffered from hunger in 2023, underlining the persistent challenge of food insecurity, particularly in Africa. The CFS session concluded with the adoption of general policy recommendations aimed at bridging gaps to ensure equitable food security and nutrition for all, aligning with Monaco's ongoing commitment to international cooperative projects addressing these issues.

In addition to the main sessions, the Monegasque delegation actively participated in side meetings, including strategic discussions with the FAO’s Emergency and Resilience Office to explore potential collaborations in the Sahel and the Middle East. These meetings underscore Monaco's proactive approach in fostering international partnerships to bolster resilience and sustainable development in food-vulnerable regions. The delegation's participation underscores Monaco’s unwavering commitment to international dialogue and action in tackling global challenges of food security and nutrition.
