Monaco Celebrates Sainte-Dévote with Solemn Mass and Royal Presence

Monaco celebrated the annual feast of Sainte-Dévote, the Principality's patron saint, with traditional solemnity on January 27. The day's observances began with a pontifical mass at the Cathedral of Monaco, officiated by Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Holy See's Secretary for Relations with States. Notable attendees, including His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene, and Mayor Georges Marsan, joined local residents in this significant religious event.

Due to inclement weather, the customary procession carrying the relics of Sainte-Dévote was conducted inside the cathedral, rather than following its traditional outdoor path. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Salle des Mariages in Monaco's Town Hall, maintaining the spirit of community and reverence despite the weather disruptions.

In his speech, Mayor Georges Marsan highlighted the feast of Sainte-Dévote as a pivotal tradition integral to Monaco's cultural identity and community spirit. The event also saw participation from delegates of Monaco's twin towns, including Lucciana, Corsica, Dolceacqua, Italy, and Ostend, Belgium, underscoring the festival's significance in fostering international camaraderie.
