Monaco Celebrates Orthodox Christmas with Sixth Annual Nativity Gala

Monaco’s Orthodox community gathered at the Yacht Club de Monaco to celebrate Orthodox Christmas at the VI Annual Nativity Gala, highlighting Georgia's cultural and spiritual contributions. The event, organized by the Orthodox Church of Monaco's Saint Elena Parish, took place on January 10 and was graced by the presence of His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, alongside dignitaries representing His Holiness Patriarch Ilya II of Georgia. The celebration drew notable attendees, including Metropolitan Sava of Khoni and Samtredia, Bishop Vachtang of Margveti and Ubisi, as well as Patriarchal Protopresbyter George Zviadadze, members of Monaco's government, and local French mayors.

The gala commenced with a Nativity service at Saint Elena Parish, followed by an evening of Georgian cultural festivities, including performances by the Basiani Choir, and soloists Sandra Gadelia and Tako Esebua. The event showcased Georgian culinary delights, meticulously prepared by Chef Irakli Asatiani and his team from Tbilisi, offering guests an authentic taste of Georgian gastronomy. In his remarks, Bishop Irenei acknowledged the longstanding ties between the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox community in Monaco, underscoring the importance of spiritual and cultural exchange.

The gala also emphasized charitable efforts, successfully raising funds for the Monaco Red Cross, the Georgian Red Cross, and Saint Elena Parish. Alexander Hagerty, President of Saint Elena Parish, praised the event's role in enhancing charitable, spiritual, and cultural ties, with plans already in motion for the 2026 edition to further diplomatic and economic connections. Since its establishment in 2017, Saint Elena Parish has become a vital part of Monaco's religious landscape, serving a diverse Orthodox congregation.
