Monaco Celebrates Lautaro Martinez at the 2024 Golden Foot Awards Ceremony

Monaco once again stepped into the global sports spotlight this week, hosting the esteemed Golden Foot Awards at the Automobile Club de Monaco under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. The ceremony, which celebrates the lifetime achievements of football players, saw Argentinian striker Lautaro Martinez clinch the 2024 Golden Foot Award. Martinez, an Inter Milan forward and recent victor at both the Italian championship and Copa America, joined the ceremony via video link, expressing his gratitude and pride in becoming part of the revered Champions Promenade in Monaco.

The event distinguished itself by not only honoring current athletes but also recognizing past legends of football. Among the icons awarded the "Golden Foot Legend" were Portuguese maestro Rui Costa, Dutch stalwart Ruud Krol, Spanish talents Gerard Piqué and Fernando Llorente, and Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro. These players were celebrated for their indelible contributions to the sport, further highlighting the ceremony's commitment to acknowledging excellence across generations.

The awards ceremony concluded with a notable addition to Monaco's cultural heritage, the unveiling of the first plaque designated for the future "Golden Foot Café Legends Museum." This plaque, imprinted with Prince Albert II’s footprints, symbolizes Monaco’s enduring dedication to sports and its role in promoting football’s global heritage. The event not only reinforced Monaco's position as a hub for sporting excellence but also its ongoing commitment to celebrating and preserving the history of sports.
