In a swift response to an armed robbery at TheWatchProject on 23 boulevard Princesse-Charlotte, Monaco authorities successfully apprehended the suspect who had stolen four luxury watches valued at €40,000. The incident, which unfolded around 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, marked the second such episode targeting a jewelry store in Monaco this year. The suspect, reportedly armed with a pistol and a taser, initially posed as a customer before overpowering the store manager to seize the timepieces.
The robbery prompted an immediate reaction from Monaco Public Security, triggered by the store's direct alarm system. Despite the assailant's use of a taser on the manager during his escape, the authorities were quick to act, leading to the arrest of the suspect in the nearby French town of Beausoleil. The quick cooperation between local police forces ensured the recovery of the stolen items shortly after the theft.
Monaco's public prosecutor has confirmed the recovery of the watches and expressed relief over the resolution of the crime. The incident, captured clearly on the store’s surveillance system, is expected to play a crucial role in further legal proceedings, although the suspect's identity has not yet been disclosed. Meanwhile, officials remain vigilant as the principality has seen an uptick in similar high-profile crimes this year.
