The Principality of Monaco is in mourning following the untimely death of Marie-Claude Beaud, a revered figure in the world of art and museum curation, who passed away on December 29. During her tenure as the director of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) from 2009 to 2021, Beaud was instrumental in redefining the museum's role in contemporary art, making it a pivotal part of Monaco's cultural identity.
Beaud's illustrious career was marked by her innovative approach to integrating various artistic disciplines within museum spaces, enhancing the dialogue between artists, audiences, and institutions. Her commitment to making art accessible to a wider audience transformed the NMNM and several other prestigious institutions, including museums in Grenoble and Toulon, the Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Her legacy extends beyond her curatorial achievements. As Vice-President of the Artistic Council and a board member of the Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco, Beaud significantly contributed to the International Contemporary Art Prize, influencing the art community up until her last days. The NMNM and the Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco, along with the broader art community, extend their deepest condolences to her family and colleagues, celebrating her profound impact on the arts.
