The Princely Government of Monaco has unveiled plans for the new Fontvieille footbridge, set to open in June 2025, as part of efforts to enhance urban mobility and reduce vehicular traffic within the city-state. The bridge will extend from the existing Wurtemberg footbridge and connect the Salines park-and-ride with the bustling districts of Fontvieille and La Condamine, aiming to streamline pedestrian flow across these key areas.
Designed by the esteemed Monegasque architects François Lallemand and Christian Curau, the footbridge will feature modern amenities including two public elevators and a staircase that provides direct access to Avenue de Fontvieille. This initiative received unanimous support from Monaco’s municipal council, highlighting the community’s commitment to sustainable urban planning and mobility enhancements.
Elected official Jean-Luc Puyo emphasized the project's role in improving connectivity and pedestrian safety in Monaco. The design of the new footbridge will complement the existing infrastructure, incorporating elements like under-ramp lighting to ensure visibility and safety. Additionally, the area beneath the new structure, Wurtemberg Square, will undergo a significant redesign, further contributing to the aesthetic and functional uplift of the city’s pedestrian landscape.
