Monaco and Qatar Lead UN to Adopt Resolution on Sport for Sustainable Development

On Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly, with Monaco playing a pivotal role alongside Qatar as co-chairs of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development, unanimously passed the resolution 'Sport as a Driver of Sustainable Development'. This resolution underscores the importance of sport in promoting education, physical and mental health, gender equality, and social inclusion. It also emphasizes sports' ability to foster values of peace, tolerance, and respect, while addressing the issue of corruption within the sector.

During the session, Monaco's Second Secretary Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio highlighted the unifying power of sport and stressed the significance of partnerships and the central role played by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The assembly also paid tribute to IOC President Thomas Bach, acknowledging his contributions as he prepares to conclude his term.

A special meeting and luncheon were organized by the Group of Friends of Sport to honor President Bach, where he spoke about the prospective impact of artificial intelligence on the sports industry. This event underscored the forward-thinking approach of the sporting community as it embraces technological advancements.
