Monaco and ALIPH Foundation Strengthen Alliance to Preserve Endangered Cultural Heritage

On November 6, 2024, the Principality of Monaco reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding global cultural heritage by signing a new two-year partnership agreement with the ALIPH Foundation. The ceremony, attended by Monaco’s Government Counselor-Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, and Bariza Khiari, President of ALIPH’s Foundation Council, marked the continuation of a collaboration that began in 2020 aimed at protecting cultural heritage in conflict and post-conflict zones.

The ALIPH Foundation, established after the 2017 Abu Dhabi International Conference on Endangered Heritage, focuses on the protection of cultural sites, museums, and monuments in areas affected by conflicts and disasters globally. Monaco has actively contributed to several ALIPH projects, including the restoration and security of significant sites and collections in Syria, Lebanon, Ukraine, and Mali. The renewed partnership for 2024-2025 will concentrate on documenting and digitizing Armenian heritage and conserving historic sites in Lebanon, emphasizing youth involvement to foster intercultural dialogue.

This initiative is part of Monaco's broader engagement with international efforts, including those by UNESCO and ICCROM, to protect vulnerable cultural heritage. By renewing its alliance with ALIPH, Monaco continues to play a crucial role in global heritage preservation, supporting communities in maintaining their cultural identity and historical continuity despite formidable challenges.
